For thousands of Palestinian families, October 7, 2023 marks the day their lives changed forever. What followed was months of displacement, loss, and uncertainty. Homes that took generations to build were gone in an instant. Neighborhoods that once held the laughter of children fell silent. And families who never imagined leaving Gaza were forced to search for safety, sometimes in another city, sometimes in another country entirely.
At Rahmah Relief for Gaza, we do not see numbers or headlines. We see mothers holding their children a little tighter. We see fathers searching for a way to provide when there is nothing left to provide with. We see elders who spent a lifetime building a home now starting over with empty hands.
Our faith teaches us that whoever saves one life, it is as if they have saved all of humanity. This is not just a verse we recite. It is the reason we exist. Since the earliest days of this crisis, our volunteers and partners on the ground have worked to reach displaced families with what they need most: food that does not run out, water that is safe to drink, shelter that keeps out the cold, and medical care when the nearest clinic is gone.
But relief is not only about what we deliver. It is about presence. It is about a family knowing that somewhere, people have not forgotten them. Every parcel of aid carries with it a message: you are not alone, and your dignity has not been erased.
The road ahead is long. Many of the families we support are still in temporary shelters, still uncertain about tomorrow, still waiting for a chance to rebuild. Some have begun new lives in new countries, carrying nothing but memories and the hope that their children will grow up somewhere safe. Others remain close to home, waiting for the day they can return to what is left of it.
This is why we continue our work every single day. Not because the crisis has passed, but because it has not. Not because the world has stopped watching, but because too often, it has looked away.
